Show Region Eight track and field meet at Southern Utah State field today second, third, fourth and fifth, respectively, according to Lunt. Cedar High School Redmen, who have been slim in the track and field this year, are! expected to enter most of the events. Advance entries for the Redmen were listed as follows: 100 and 220 yard dashes, Nolan Anderson, Nolan Roberts, Ro-berts, Steve Christensen, L. Romberger and Sterling Simkins. 440 yard dash: Brice Beten-son, Beten-son, Gene Cardon and Steve Edwards. 180 low hurdles: Lane Spe-vak, Spe-vak, Nolan Anderson. Long jump: Mike Rice, Ralph Crockett and Nolan Ro- Southern Utah State College will play host today, Thursday, Thurs-day, to the Region Eight Track and Field meet. It will be held at Thunderbird stadium and events are slated to get underway un-derway at 9:30 a. m. Trails will be held during the forenoon with finals to get underway at 1:30 p. m., according ac-cording to Steve Lunt, member mem-ber of the SUSC athletic staff who is in charge. Tennis competition, to be held on the SUSC courts, will begin at 10 a. m. and continue con-tinue through the day. Afternoon finals will begin promptly at 1:30 p. m. beginning be-ginning with the 120 yard high hurdles, shot put and high jump. Other events are sceduled as follows: :u ? ' 1:50: Mile run. ' - 2:05: 100 yard dash. berts. ; 880 yard run: Steve' Palmer, N. Warby. Mile run: Steve Munsen. Javelin:: Ed Delong, Ralph Crockett and Phil Brown. Shotput: Mike Savage, Robin Ro-bin Haight and Steve Gunn. Discus: Robin Haight, Kirt Tullis, Phil Brown. High Jump: Dennis Rollo, Layne Spevak. Pole Vault: Berry Blake, Jerry Lynch, Sterling Simkins. 2:20: 440 yard dash, javelin, jave-lin, long jump. 2:30: 880 yard run. 2:45: 180 yard low hurdles, discuss. 2:55: 220 yard dash. 3:15: Medley relay. 3:25: Mile relay. 3:35: 880 yard relay. The school compiling the most points will be awarded a team trophy at the conclu- sion of the meet. Ribbons will be awarded to the first five winners in each event, except the relays where only first places ribbons will be awarded award-ed and points in only the first three places. Points will be based on 8, 5, 3, 2, 1 for first, In preliminary track meets this year Steve Palmer in the 880 and Steve Munsen in the mile have been the most consistent con-sistent performers. Steve Christensen Chris-tensen is also expected to do well in the sprints, however, he has missed a pair of meets late in the season. First and second place winners win-ners in the Region meet will be sent to the State Class B meet to be held in Salt Lake City at the expense of the Utah High School Activities Association. Third place winners win-ners may also enter the state competition at the expense of the school. |
