The Redmen bounced back to score a pair and left five runners stranded in the first four innings of play. In the final inning of play the Redmen had the tieing runner on third and a fine play by the Flyer's third sack-er sack-er caught Nolan Roberts at first on a slow roller down the line to keep the game from going into extra innings. Paul Wyaskett suffered the loss for the Redmen, his first of the season. Esplin picked up the mound victory for the Flyers. In the second game Lewis Chamberlain belted a double with the bases loaded to drive in all three of the Cedar City runs and account for the 3-2 victory. Bruce Blackner picked pick-ed up the mound victory in League Standings Dixie 9 1 -900 Cedar 8 2 .800 Parowan 5 5 .500 Kanab 4 4 .500 Enterprise 4 6 .400 Hurricane 4 6 .400 Millard 0 10 .000 Dixie High School virtually assured themselves of at least a share of the Region Eight baseball championship Friday afternoon when they split a double header with the Cedar Redmen. The Flyers won the opening game 3-2 and the Redmen bounced back to win the second game by an identical ident-ical score of 3-2. The loss by the Redmen, however, was their second of the season compared to a single sin-gle loss for the Flyers giving the St. George crew a one game lead with only one round of play remaining. The Flyers pushed in two quick runs in the first inning the abbreviated five-inning affair. af-fair. Saturday the Redmen were back on their home field and picked up a pair of victories over the Hurricane Tigers to remain in the running for the championship. In the opener the Redmen downed the Tigers by a score of 13-3 and then bounced back to take the second game by a 5-2 score. Nolan Roberts was on the mound for the opening open-ing game victory and Bruce Blackner took the mound win in the second encounter. Consistant hitting by the team in both games proved too much for the Tigers. This week the Redmen will wind up their regular season play by taking on winless Millard in a pair of games scheduled at Fillmore Friday afternoon. Dixie will host the Kanab Cowboys in St. George to finish fin-ish out their season. For the Flyers a split would insure them a tie for the championship champion-ship while a sweep of both games would give them the 1970 Region Eight baseball crown. |
