SLACK Funeral .services were held Tuesday t 1" a "i. in the Cedar Ce-dar Fifth Ward Chapel for Morris Arthur Slack, .'!.'!, who died from an accidental drowning June 1 in Albany, Oregon. The Cedar City native has been affiliated for the past several years with the seminary semin-ary system of (he Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was scheduled to assume a position with the Seminary in Cedar City at the beginning of the coming school year. Slack was born in Cedar City, Jan- Ifl, 10.T7, to John Calvin and Mae Wright Slack Reeves. He married Joy Peut-rico Peut-rico Haskett, Feb. 3, 10G2 in the St, George LDS Temple. He is a graduate of Cedar High School where h( was active ac-tive in athletics and served as sophomore class president anj later as studentbody president. He was the recipient recipi-ent of the Elks Leadership Award and voted by his classmates class-mates as the Boy of the Year. He also served as president of the Seminary studentbody. Slack spent two years at Southern Utah State College where he was freshman class president; vice president of the Lambda Delta Sigma. He also served as chairman of the homecoming committee, was yearbook editor and Drill Master for the AFROTC Sponsors Spon-sors Corps. He served a mission for the LDS Church in the West Central Cen-tral States. He returned to enter school at Brigharn Young University where be gained both his bachelor's and master's degrees. While at BYU he was assistant student-body student-body president and was also a counselor in a bishopric in one of the university wards. Entering the seminary system sys-tem of the church he served first at Moab then was named coordinator of seminaries in Arizona. His most recent assignment as-signment was as an instructor at the Seminary at Skvline High School in Salt Lake City. Survivors include his wife I and three children, Kent, Tawny, Toya, Salt Lake City; his mother, Cedar City and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs- Florence Hoy-borne, Hoy-borne, Dell, Hal, Coreen Curtis, Curt-is, all of Cedar City; Merlin, Las Vegas, Nov.; DeVon, Lincoln Lin-coln City, Ore. and Frank, who is serving in the U-.,!SAir Force in Turkey. 'C,"7 Speakers at the services included in-cluded Don Draper, Dave Schofield, John Hciderich and Frank Day with a tribute from Grant Harrison and remarks re-marks by Bp. Gordon Staker. Family prayer was offered by Jim Heywood, invocation by-McKay by-McKay Smith, benediction by ' Dick Carlson and the dedication dedica-tion of the grave at the Cedar City cemetery was by George Manning. Blaine Johnson rendered a vocal solo, "Poor Wayfairing Man of Grief," and a vocal quartet also performed. Prelude Pre-lude and postlude music was played by Valaine Bladen. |
