Show New Years blaze forces local family from home An early New Year's morning morn-ing fire almost destroyed a Parowan home occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Larry Nelson and small child. The fire was discovered at about 1 a. m. Jan. 1 by Mrs. Nelson when she returned home from working work-ing the late shift at Coleman Company, according to Albert Orton, chief of the Parowan Volunteer Fire department, one of the first at the fire. Mrs. Nelson got her baby out of the house and awakened her husband who was still sleeping. The fire, apparently starting from a faulty coal furnace, was centered in the child's bedroom and a clothes closet, and damage by the fire, other than to the house, was held to family clothing according to Orton, who states that practically all of the fur-nishings fur-nishings were carried out of the homo by firemen and the neighbors. The fire chief estimated the damages to the home by fire and water, may run up to $6,000, which he states was covered by insurance. The home belonged to Mrs. Nelson's Nel-son's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sectt Barton of Paragonah. The Nelsons spent the rest of the night at the Barton home and we understand they are now residing in Paragonah. In connection with the above fire, Fire Chief Albert Orton has the following to say.: "the Parowan Fire Department m would like to thank townspeople towns-people for help rendered at the recent fire, but would like to remind them to stay back out of the way of department members, until their help is requested." |
