Show Senior tittle League moves into second half league action Action is getting hot and heavy in the Senior Little League baseball program in Cedar City as teams move into in-to the second half of the league schedule this week. Utah Construction was the big winner of the week picking pick-ing up a pair of victories. The first was a 5 to 2 win over Cedar Glass and Tuesday evening ev-ening the Construction crew took the measure of Southern Utah Mortuary 13-4. Against Cedar Glass Dave Kanosh picked up the mound victory hurling a two hitter at the glass men while his team was picking up nine hits off Brad Hunter of the losers. Top hitter in the contest con-test was Fred Wright with three hits in four trips to the plate. Tuesday a newcomer, Don Whittwer, picked up the mound victory over SUM with some help in relief by Fred Wright. Dane Leavitt was the big hitter for the victors with three singles to his credit. Suffering the loss was Lee Holmes. Both Craig Rollo and Holmes doubled in the contest con-test but it was not enough as the Mortuary crew was held to fiv'e hits. Steve Hafen saw" mound duty in relief. Cedar Glass bounced back from their loss to take the measure of State Bank 5 to 3 in one of the top games of the week. Brad Hunter with his "junk" pitched the Glass team to the victory with relief re-lief by Cornel Christensen. Christensen also belted two doubles for the victors. Mike Hair suffered the loss. One of the toughest games of the week saw California Pacific Monday night, edge out a 4-3 victory over Utah' I Parks handing Kevin Cox his first mound loss of the season. sea-son. Robert Shirts and Bob Piatt combined for the mound victory. Only extra base hit of the game was a double by Robert Shirts. Cox gave up only four hits in his losing effort while his teammates collected eight hits but could muster only three runs. Utah Parks got on the winning win-ning side early in the week with a 10-1 victory over Southern Utah Mortuary. Cox picked up the win in this battle bat-tle giving up only three hits. Mark Slack suffered the loss for SUM. Cox picked up a pair of doubles and Bill Engle hit three for four including a double to aid the winners. In the only other game of the week State Bank behind the five hit pitching of Dennis Den-nis Alger defeated California Pacific by a score of 9-3. Robert Ro-bert Shirts was the loser but he gave it a real try with three hits in three trips to the plate including a triple. Mike Cannon was the top hitter for State' Bank with 3 for 3 including in-cluding a double. |
