Show E. L. Peterson to appear at fireside Edwin L. Peterson, former Utah commander and national vice-commander of the American Amer-ican Legion, will be guest speaker for a special July 4 fireside sponsored by the Cedar Ce-dar West Stake M-Men and Gleaner Council Sunday at 8 p.m. in Cedar West Stake Center. The program is for all youth between the ages of 14 and 25, according to Neuman Duncan, council chairman. Mr. Duncan is assisted by .Marilyn Murdock, vice-chairman. Also appearing on the program pro-gram will be Rex Osborne, on leave from West Point Military Mili-tary Academy, and Evalee Matheson, 1971 SUSC valedictorian. valedic-torian. Refreshments will be served following the program. Mr. Peterson, currently professor pro-fessor of Social Sciences and Geography at Utah State University, Un-iversity, was a former teacher and athletic coach at College of Southern Utah, forerunner of Southern Utah State College. Col-lege. While at the college he over KSUB Radio. He served as Iron County Republican chairman and was a member of the State Republican Central Cen-tral Committee from Iron County from 1950 to 1955. In 1955 Mr. Peterson left Cedar City to become administrative admin-istrative assistant to Congress-man Congress-man H. A. Dixon (R-Utah). He returned to USU in 1956 to finish his doctorate after study at UCLA and the University Uni-versity of California at Berkeley. Berke-ley. He earlier received an M. S. in Political Science from USU. He was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Coast Artillery Corps. Mr. Peterson transferred to the U.S. Army Air Corps after two years of active duty with the artillery. He was discharged dis-charged in 1946 with the rank of major after completing a series of military assignments, the last of which was as staff member with General B. K. Young in the Tactical .Training .Train-ing Command of the Army Air Force. ; EDWIN L. PETERSON served as Dean of Men and Veterans Coordinator.
