Show ROLLO-glyphics KLIEN HOLLO It's always interesting when you hear a story of good faith on the part &f our fellow men in the process of the competitive competi-tive world of business. This particular story is a reflection that can't help but have some influence on at least one family in the people peo-ple of Cedar City. It seems that a recent traveler trav-eler going through our community com-munity stopped at the Whiting Whit-ing Brothers Service Station on South Main Street and in the process of paying a bill turned over to the attendant a $10 bill which wa. mixed in with a series of $1 bills. The motorist didn't discover his mistake until he was down the road a peace and when he did he called up a friend here in Cedar City to have the matter checked out. When brought to the attention cf the station, a check was made on the day's receipts, it was discovered that sure enough a $9 error turned up and Rex Michie, the friend here in Cedar City was told to come up and pick up the cash and its was returned to the traveler. Now a lot of things could have happened to that $9 in the meantime, but it didn't and it was returned and the thought occured to me that this act of honesty like any of our dealings with the public pub-lic will reflect well on Cedar City as well as the individual station involved. It's truely amazing how each thing that we do effects many people and our hats ar off to those at the Whiting Bros, station for the fine reflection and image of the community that they have portrayed. , ., 4 Speaking about traveling draws my attention to anoth- er piece of material that has been compiled by the American Ameri-can Automobile Association regarding the increase in costs to the traveling public. The figures have been drawn from a survey conducted con-ducted by the association In regard to costs to the traveler for food, overnight lodging, gasoline and most other items. Prices are about 16 percent higher, on the average, than they were two years ago, when a similar survey was made. The survey indicates that all in all, to travel comfortably comfort-ably a couple will need about $15 a day. That, it states, will adequately take care of the necessities but not the frills. On this basis, a two-week trip will cost a minimum of $t14, exclusive of outlays the traveler may wish to make for amusements, admissions to places of interest, souven-iers souven-iers and the like. Provided for, under this budget, are $16 a day per , couple for food and snacks, $17 for overnight accomodations, accomoda-tions, $9 for gas and oil, and $4 for tips and miscellaneous expenses. The Association assumes in the figures that the couple will travel an average of 300 miles a day and get 14 miles to the gallon of gas. You know it gets rather frightening when you contemplate con-template figures such as these and see inflationary tendency . they indicate. The problem is those increases in-creases are also being reflected reflect-ed in our costs to stay at home. Where is the spiral going go-ing to end? Another 4th celebration and no restrooms at the park, f Good luck everybody. 3 I |
