Show Parowan Council hears protests from citizens groups at meeting into the city irrigation ditches, The complaints are that this is not being done. The city has received the bill for the new 12-inch pipe installed recently In a new lino from the storage tank to town for $22,850, The council decided that this would be paid by taking monies now in the water fund and the cemetery ceme-tery perpetual care fund, with all monies to be paid back into these funds, with interest. inter-est. While discussing affairs at the cemetery a discussion was also had on the rates for perpetual care and for burial fees. It was decided to double the cost for perpetual care and raise burial fees from the $35 to $30. Perpetual care charges now are $110 for a 4 space plot and $125 for a six grave spot. When and if this will be done was not divulged. divulg-ed. ! At the regular meeting of the Parowan City Council on Monday evening July 10, three men, representing the home owners living on Holyoak Lane appeared to protest the dirt and dust conditions on that road. They were Jack Dillon, Dil-lon, Jack Bennett and Ernest Richards, and they appeared to ask the council if there is something that can be done about road conditions there. This road is being construe-ed construe-ed by Iron County, to be the connecting link between Parowan Paro-wan and the West Interchange on M5. They asked if something some-thing could be done to hasten has-ten the oiling of the road, or if it could be wet down occasionally. oc-casionally. They were told an oiling project there isn't feasible at this time, and that with the drouth conditions condi-tions In the area, a sprinkling project is out of the question. The men were told that an anti-spef ding campaign may help in that so much dust would not be raised and this was agreed to. Therefore the road will be posted as to the speed limit on it during this . emergency. The council also promised to meet with the county commissioners during that week and determin what the status of the job is and encourage the completion of the project as soon as possible, ble. These gentlemen also asked Parowan city to confer with the commissioners to determine deter-mine what has happened to the proposed TV translating station that was to be placed on the red hill ridge on the west side of the valley? They reported that their TV reception recep-tion is very poor, and were of the opinion that the west hill station would be a big help to bring in a better picture. The city decided to run new water lines under the road being be-ing constructed in the Holyoak Lane to replace old lines already al-ready there, and to propose new installations. These lines will be three-quarter inch to replace the old ones which may be one-half inch ones. It proposes to do this before the road is oiled. The council made the decision deci-sion not to do any new street oiling this year, but to hold off until next. The money in the street oiling fund, which comes from the State Class C monies, will be held and will be put with next year's allotment, to provide a larger larg-er project. The reason given for this was that all road oiling oil-ing equipment in the area is already overloaded with the state highway road program. Councilman Roy Benson reported re-ported on several meetings he has attended with the race track committee re-activated recentily. He stated that this group has decided to lay some clay on the track with the project to be done by the Nevada Ne-vada Rock and Sand when it has time. This clay will be mixed with the sand which was placed on the track some time ago. The committee has also decided to build a new ticket booth at the entrance of the race track grounds to take the place of the inadequate inade-quate one there now. This is to be done on a 50 50 basis with Iron County. It was reported at the meeting meet-ing that many complaints are coming in from citizens, that the city well is not being used as much as it was promised. When the irrigation water rates were doubled early in the spring, it was with the idea in mind that the well would be used at all times with the surplus over and above that not needed in the city culinary system going |
