Show Bobert Moss declares candidacy for County School Board ed in their education. Classes are many times too large for teachers to do an effective job of meeting children's needs. "We live in an age of accountability. ac-countability. I would like to have the schools be more, accountable ac-countable to the parents and taxpayers. More parents should get involved in the education ed-ucation of their children. The home is the bulwark of our society. The school should supplement sup-plement the work of the home and should not attempt to usurp the function of the home," he stated. "In this day of the so-called 'teacher surplus," I feel that the superintendent and board have done an excellent job of staffing the schools with excel. DR. ROBERT MOSS Dr. Robert H. Mo&s, 54 North 1841 West, Cedar City, is a candidate for the Iron County Board of Education, Precinct Five. Dr. Moss is an "Associate Professor at Southern Utah State College. He has had extensive ex-tensive experience in .working with the public schools of Nevada, Wyoming, Colorado, and Utah.- In announcing his candidacy, candid-acy, Moss said, "I have long involved myself with the functioning func-tioning of the schools. One of our most important Interests as parents is that our children receive a quality education. 1 feel that the Iron County Schools are good, but there is always room for improvement improve-ment in any district." "I feel that students are sometimes being shortchang- lent teachers. Teaching quality can continue to be upgraded through various processes which free teachers to teach. These include more use of teacher aides and voluntary parents in the classroom. Fewer pupils per classroom should also be an immediate goal. More cooperation should also be effected between the school district and the college." col-lege." Moss is a graduate of Dixie Junior College, Southern Utah State College, and Brigham Young University. He is presently pre-sently bishop of the SUSC 1st Ward of the L.D.S. Church. This year he is also president of the Cedar City Senior Little Lit-tle League. He has long been active in community affairs and has been a member of the Kiwanis and Lions Clubs. He married Roberta Renner of Salt Lake City and they have a family of five sons. Moss also said that "in order or-der to insure the survival of this great country, schools must develop the potential of each individual, teach the necessary subject matter, teach students to solve problems and pursue truth, and transmit trans-mit the culutrai heritage of this land." |
