Show Winter Sun Scald Kills Many Trees Many young trees are lost each winter in Southern Utah from sun scald, according to Wallace Sjoblom, County Agent. The temperature extremes ex-tremes from cold nights to warm days are very hard on young trees. Several protective protec-tive methods have been used, such as wrapping with burlap : or cloth, protection on the south side with two boards '. nailed together, and the use ., of a material containing , aluminum that can be sprayed spray-ed on the trunks. Dr. Arvil Stark, USU Extension Exten-sion Horticulturist, suggests the possible use of a strip or strips of aluminum foil fastened fasten-ed to the trunk. He also said that it may not be too late to protect your young trees this year if you have npt already done so. |
