Show Days of '47 Celebration in Cedar Features Outstanding Parade Entries Spirit of '17 was reproduced j in beautiful floats on Monday, July 1 as residents of sou I hern t'tah celebrated Pioneer Day under un-der the sponsorship of the Cedar Stake and the Cedar West Stake. Pioneer Day Parade featured on outstanding array of floats depict inj Pioneer scenes and e cuts Wali.ing off with first place honors in the judging of the parade was the entry from Cedar Stake depicting several asvts of the early history of the State of Utah. Cedar Eighth Ward won second place honors with a beautiful replica, re-plica, la yellow and brown, of a Beehive, official emblem of the state. Capturing third place hon-ors hon-ors was the entry from the Cedar Indian Branch. Pioneer dinner sponsored by the two camps of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers was a huge success w:th general chairmen for the event being Mrs. Alice Jones and Pauline .Neptune. In the tug of war which was to feature bishops of tiie Cedar Stake against Bishops of the Cedar West St.ke, the West Stakers won a two out of thre- match drenching the Cedar Stake participants on two of the three attempts. At the ducking pond, bishops and stake officials took their turns 01. the high seats. Hundreds of children participated partici-pated in the races conducted under the direction of Richard Dotson before breaking up for the afternoon to move to Navajo Lake for the boat races. Hundreds of sjectators were at Navajo to witness the races staged by the Cedar City Junior Chamber of Commerce and tho Cedar Boat Club. A small crowd saw the concluding conclu-ding event of the day-long celebration cele-bration the boxing and wrestling wrest-ling card staged at the CSU ficldhouse. General chairmen for die celebration cele-bration activities were S.'i' Gentry Gen-try and LaNoir Jones. They expressed their appreciation appre-ciation to all those who assisted in the arrangement and especially especial-ly to tho general chairmen who organized and carried out the various events of the day. I Parade chairman was Kerry Jones and L. C. Miles was it charge of the patriotic program which was staged in the Cedar First ward chapel. |
