ROMA MELLING r ELM A LYNN SANDBERG !: V ' CAROL LEE HAFEN Four junior girls from Cedar City High School have been named to attend the Annual American U'gion Auxiliary Girls' State to be held at the Utah .Stale 1'niversity at Logan June 7 to 11. J Announcement from the Cedar I City American Legion Auxiliary! named the following four girls: Homa Melling, daughter of I Mrs. Thelma Melling. Nadine Dodge, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lyman Dodge. Eima Lynn Samlberg, daughter daugh-ter of Mr. and Mrs. James Sand- . berg. I Carol Lee Hafen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hafen. The event is sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary with the Cedar City Ladies of Elks, the Business and Professional Women's Club and the Lions Club contributing to assist in ' sending the four Cedar High girls to the annual event. The purpose of Girls' State is to educate young women in the duties and privileges and responsibilities respon-sibilities of American Citizenship. It is an effort on the part of the American Legion Auxiliary to bring to the girls of the state a knowledge of the fundamental principles of government through ac tual practice and control of the state offices during the week-long week-long event. At the completion of the event each girl is expected to return home for the completion of her High School senior year better trained to furnish leadership in her school and community. Candidates are selected from the upper third scholastic level of the junior class and must I maintain a least a B average. I |
