Show I Council Briefed On Departments A series of reports from de-partments de-partments and various committees commit-tees occupied the Cedar City council at the regular meeting Thursday. Reports were submitted and heard from the Water Department Depart-ment for the month of January; and from the Power Board, bringing bring-ing the council up to date on a current six-month study program. ! Mayor Kumen Gardner stated that the council had authorized Mountain States Telephone Co. to install two' sidewalk telephones on Main Street .The two Installations Instal-lations will be located near State Bank of Southern Utah and the second near the Cedar Theater, both on the west side of the street. In attendance was Pearce Shel-ton, Shel-ton, manager of the Cedar City office, who also discussed the possibility of renewing the franchise fran-chise with the Telephone Co. which has recently expired. The council will take the request under advisement, the Mayor Indicated. In-dicated. In addition Arthur Jones, re presenting the Sons of Utah Pioneers, Pio-neers, met with the council requesting re-questing that a Memorial Park be established. The request was for the area owned by the city just east of Coal Creek and south of Utah Highway 14 to be designated for such a purpose. The council indicated in-dicated an Interest In the development de-velopment but asked for more detailed information on the pro-posed pro-posed park and potential developments. devel-opments. City manager Max Wood presented pre-sented information to the council coun-cil on a proposed street improvement improve-ment program. Tentatively the plan calls for curb to curb oiling of 100, 200 and 300 West streets during the next year with development devel-opment planned the following year on streets near Main Street on the East. A new process will be used which will hold costs to property owners down to as low as $25 to $30, it was indicated. Residents of the area will be asked to cooperate co-operate by having curb installed wherever possible to facilitate the project. |
