Show 'Record' Garners Awards in Annual State Press Association Convention The Iron County Record won recognition this past week at the Utah State Press Association's Annual convention staged at Salt Lake City. A total of 52 weekly publications publica-tions from throughout the state participated in the association's annual cintest in various categories cate-gories in the weekly newspaper field. In the category of Best Editorial, Editori-al, the Iron County Record, in an editorial by Morgan Rollo on Planning and Zoning, captured first place honors and received a Plaque. In the category of Best News Story, the Record walked off with second place for the handling of the account of the slashing of Abel Safari and the subsequent killing of the attacker by a law enforcement officer. In the field of excellence in typography, which is the general printing appearance of the paper, the Record won third place honors hon-ors and in addition picked up honorable mention honors in the field of sports photography. General Excellency With points awarded in each of the various categories of competition com-petition a general excellency award is presented in which the Iron County Record won honorable honora-ble mention. The convention was highlighted highlight-ed by the appearance of National Editorial Association President Max Thomas of Kerrville, Texas; a panel discussion on the subject sub-ject of offset versus letterpress and a tour of a recently installed offset plant in Salt Lake City. |
