Show Cedar City Council Fills Vacancies In City Offices, Approves Rezoning Three vacancies In the cltyl administration were filled at the regular meeting of the Cedar City Council last Thursday eve-1 ning, purchase of a new police car was authorized and two major ma-jor additions to the street lighting light-ing program were okeyed, ac- cording to Mayor Arnold Anderson. Ander-son. Kenneth Perkins. 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Perkins of Cedar City, who has Just completed a four year stint with the U. S. Navy, was named to the Cedar City police department by the council at the meeting. He will fill the position on the force formerly for-merly held by Paul Blackburn, who left the department to ac cept a position with the Utah State Highway Patrol. Named as city Inspector, from a host of applications, was Wes McEown of Cedar City. He will replace Warren Cox who has held the Inspector position for a number num-ber of years. Mr. Cox, who is recovering from a heart attack suffered lost fall, will remain with the city for a short time to fill Mr. McEown In on his responsibilities re-sponsibilities and duties and to assist with the Inspection program pro-gram for a short time. Appointment Appoint-ment is effective as of Feb. 1. Third appointment made at the council meeting was that of Cecil Terry as dog catcher. In making the announcement the mayor also indicated that dog licenses li-censes for the I960 year are now available and should be picked up at the city office. Fee is $5 for male and $10 for female. It I Is expected that Mr. Terry will er additions will be in the south, west sector of the city south of 400 South and west of 450 West Street and including the Kayenta Circle. The 4000 watt lamp will be installed at the intersection of 450 Wes . and 400 South. A survey of possible street lighting Improvement In the northwest sector of town Is also being made, the mayor Indicated. Installation of the fixtures and the fixture expenses are absorbed by the power company, it was j explained and the city pays a i flat monthly rate for the service, i varying from 90 cents to $5.00 I per lamp depending on the size I (Continued on Page 8. Thorley Motor bid was $640.30 which included accepting a 1953 Chevrolet as a trade-in. Other bidders included Bradshaw Chevrolet. First of the two ordinances will close a dead end street south from 400 South. The closed street is an extension south of Dewey Avenue. I On the recommendation of the Planning Commission a change in the zoning of the southwest corner area of 400 South and Main was approved at the council coun-cil meeting. An area now designed design-ed for a special office area was changed to a commercial zone and the commercial zoning was extended to the south, to meet with the commercial zone line Just north of the Cedar Bowling Lanes. The commercial zone will extend west to 75 West Street. Appointment of an Airport Committee to investigate the needs at the municipal airport was made at the council meeting. meet-ing.
