Show PROMINENT PAROWAN MAN DIES; LDS MISSIONARIES ' RETURN; SEMINARY EXERCISES PROGRAM OUTLINED . .p. . .. l Funeral Services Set for Parowan Resident Funeral services will be held in the Parowan West ward chapel cha-pel Saturday at 2:00 p. m. for Jchn P. Orton, prominent Paro. wan citizen and churchman, who passed away at his home Wednesday Wed-nesday morning. Death came as result of heart trouble following follow-ing a lingering illness. John Partlow Orton was born in Newthorpe, England, Sept. 11, 1869, a son of Jonathan and Mary Ann Partlow Orton, being the second child in a family of fitteen. He became a member of Die LDS church March 26. 1881. At the early age of 12 years he went to work in the coal mines in England where he spent many years. He was married to Sarah Ann Frith 61 years ago in England and they immigrated to America in 1895. He later returned to his native land to fill a mission of the church. Always active in religious re-ligious work he served as a ward teacher, counselor in the Sunday School and in the Parowan stake mission. The deceased entered the photography pho-tography business shortly after arriving in Parowan. He later engaged en-gaged in farming and lumbering, lumber-ing, owning a partnership in the Orton-Ward lumber mill which operated in the Parowan mountains. moun-tains. His wife died Feb. 28, 1937, and on May 27, 1939 he was married mar-ried to Lydia Ann Stevens, and she and a sister Grace O. Bet-tiides Bet-tiides of Salt Lake City, and a brother, Joseph Orton, England survive him. |
