Show Purchase of 1500 New Box Cars Announced By Union Pacific Co. O. P. Ashby, president of the Union Pacific Railroad, today announced an-nounced the purchase of 1,600 additional ad-ditional box cars at a cost of more than $6,000,000. The order brings to 3600 the total to-tal number of new box cars ordered order-ed since the railroad's postwar e-qulpment e-qulpment purchasing program began, be-gan, at a cost of some $16,000,000. Mr. A.shby pointed out that the new order brings to more than $100,000,000 the total of new equipment equip-ment ordered since the end of the war. The cars just ordered will be purchased from Pullman-Standard Car Manufacturing Company. In addition to the box cars, Union Pacific also has ordered 500 automobile auto-mobile cars, 1400 hopper cars and has joined with the Southern pacific pa-cific in ordering 5,000 refrigerator cars for the Pacific Fruit Express Company, Jointly owned by the two railroads. Passenger equipment on order includes in-cludes 11 mail storage cars, 6 railway rail-way postofflce mall cars, 9 baggage cars, 7 cafe lounge cars, 17 dining cars, 6 club cars, 0 club lounge cars and 13 sleeping cars. Diesel-electric pdwer equipment ordered since the war consists of 31 switching locomotives, 28 freight locomotives and ten passenger locomotives. lo-comotives.
