Show YOUR POST OFFICE (By Postmaster O. L. Janson) Since it Is the desire of the Post Office department that prohibited matter be kept from the mails. It Is believed that one of the best ways to accomplish this result is to let the public know what material Is unmallable. It is not possible in a brief item of this kind to mention in detail all types of unmallable matter, but the following list Is representative re-presentative of the types commonly dealt with: 1. All matter illegibly, Incorrectly Incorrect-ly or insufficiently addressed. 2. First class matter not prepaid one full rate 3 cenU and all other matter not fully prepaid, except ex-cept business reply cards, nd letters, let-ters, and hotel keys 3. All matter exceeding the limit of weight and size prescribed by law. 4. Intoxicating beverages of any kind. 5. Inflamable matter such as matches mat-ches or other articles likely to cause fire through absorption of moisture, or self ignition through friction or spontaneous combustion. 7. Firearms, such as revolvers, which are capable of being concealed con-cealed on the person. 8. Obscene matter of all sorts. 9. Poisons of every kind. 10. Narcotics. 11. Extortion letters, and lottery and fraudulent matter. 12. Live animals, insects (except bees under prescribed conditions), and birds or fowls (except day-old clilcks. 13. Fresh hides or pelts, or any other articles giving off a bad odor, whether sealed as first class matter mat-ter or not. The above list gives only the general classes of matter not ad-missable ad-missable to the U. S. malls. When In doubt whether or not any specific speci-fic article is mailable, be sure to inquire at the post office before mailing It. The federal law governing govern-ing inadmissable mall is very severe se-vere so that it is always a safe rule to be cautious. |
