Show New Backfield Coach Named For Bronco Squad When the Branch Agricultural College Bronco football squad takes the field for its first practice prac-tice of the 1949 season on Thursday, Thurs-day, September 1st, Coach Murray Mur-ray Maughan will have a new assistant to help whip the team into shape. Major Oliver Harris, who will be in command of the R. O. T. C. unit at the Bronco school this year, will act as backfield coach for the BAC team. Major Harris played fullback for the Pittsburg Panther football foot-ball team in his college days, and also played professional football with the Detroit Lions. All his experience has not been on the playing field, however, since he was coach at Temple University before joining the Lions. Coach Maughan states that he will issue suits to about twenty prospective players on Wednesday, Wednes-day, August 31st, and hold the first practice session on September Septem-ber 1. When school opens a week later at least 25 more squad members will report for practice. The Bronco's first game will be one of the only two home games scheduled this season. The Southern Idaho College of Education team from Albion, last year's conference champions will furnish the competition for the Broncos in the opening game to be played on the home field on September 23rd. The other home game on the Bronco schedule will be the homecoming contest against Westminster college to be played play-ed on October 7th. The remainder of the schedule is as follows: Ricks College at Rexburg, Idaho September 30th; Boise at Boise, Idaho, October 14; Snow College at Ephraim, Oct. 21; Carbon College Col-lege at Price, Oct 28; Phoenix Junior College at Las Vegas, Nov. 5; Weber College at Ogden, Nov. 11; Dixie at St. George, Nov. 24. |
