Show Summer Recreation Program Ends Most Successful Season Tomorrow The Cedar City summer recreation rec-reation program draws to a close this Friday on one of the most successful seasons to date with young and old alike taking tak-ing part in the many activities offered. Every day during the summer sum-mer months, the program has attracted at-tracted wide interest. It has been very instrumental in taking care of the leisure time activities of the children in Cedar City. Special commendation should be given to LaVell Chamberlain, for the outstanding Job he has done as the city recreation director; di-rector; also Maudell Smith, who has been in charge of the playground play-ground and dancing instruction; and Wallace Osborne, who has had charge of the swimming pool. All of these departments have been under the excellent supervision of Frank Milne, city commissioner in charge of recreation. rec-reation. The program is coming to a close this Friday to allow a break before the opening of school in two weeks. However, the swimming pool will remain open as long as the weather permits. During the summer, about 200 boys have participated in the baseball program, under Mr. Chamberlain; approximately 200 boys and girls have attended the dancing classes conducted by Miss Smith, and an average of about 100 youngsters and adults have made use of the pool facll-itles, facll-itles, each day, which is under the direction of Mr. Osborne. In addition to this the night softball games, which were brought to a close last week with the Southern Utah Softball Tournament, have provided continuous con-tinuous entertainment for many participants and spectators alike. Also helping out in the overall program, was the Junior American Amer-ican Legion Baseball, which attracted at-tracted wide interest and stimulated stimu-lated the youngsters' interest In baseball. |
