Show Store Damaged by Explosions and Fire An explosion, flying bullets ,fire smoke and water badly damaged damag-ed the Mitchell Variety store in Parowan Thursday evening and destroyed most of the merchandise, merchan-dise, when a fire broke out in the rear of the building. The building and stock of an adjoining furniture and appliance appli-ance store was also damaged. Investigators believe that the fire started in the back yard where youngsters dropped a match in some trash. The flames quickly spread to the building. A can of fly spray ignited and set off a shelf of ammunition. Flames were quickly carried to all parts of the building by a series of explosions. Mrs. Hilda Tullis, an employee and her daughter, Donna, discovered the fire at 6:30 as they were preparing prepar-ing to close the store, and barely escaped as the bullets were touched off. Damage is estimated at about $8,000. Insurance was carried on the building, and the adjustment by the company was for the full amount. |
