Show Redmen End Play With Win, Out Of Tournament The Cedar high school Hodmen finally snapped out of a throe-week's throe-week's slump In the last half of their game with Kanab Saturday Satur-day night and played ball like they had been playing earlier in the season. However, it was too late to do them much good, since they had lost their chance to enter en-ter the state basketball tournament tourna-ment by losing to Beaver the night before. In their game with Kanab Saturday Sat-urday night, the consolation game of the Region Six play-offs, play-offs, the Redmen looked bad during dur-ing the first half to trail 27 to 18 with the Cowboys looking like easy winners. However, they suddenly came to life in the second sec-ond half and scored -20 points while holding their opponents scoreless, and went on to win by a score of 57 to 50. In the game that' cost Cedar City their chance to go into the state meet, against Beaver Friday n'ght, the Redmen were unable to hit the hoop either from the floor or from the foul line,, and as a consequence were trimmed by the slim margin of 38 to 36. They had many more shots at the basket than their opponents but they could not connect often enough to win. The Cedar team Jumped into an 8 to 1 lead, then Increased this, to 11 to 3. At this point the Redmen lost their scoring eyes and were trailing 18 to 17 at half time. They fell further behind in the third quarter, but staged a rally in the final period that closed the gap but fell 2 points short of victory. Beaver won the tourney post by trimming Hinckley 35 to 30 Saturday Sat-urday night. Hinckley had won from Kanab in the opening round by a score of 56 to 52. The week-end series ended the high school basketball activities of all but three of Coach Quill Allen's squad, since six of the team members will graduate this spring. Playing their final game were Boyd "Goonle" Adams, Gayle Winterrose, Richard South-wick, South-wick, James Watson, Donald Jones and Clesson Bauer. Delias Imlay, Willard Gardner, Gaylen Berry and Bud Bauer will be eligible eli-gible for participation next year. |
