Show County Board Considers Tax Welfare Matters j At the regular April meeting of the Bourd ul Cwmt ccmnissioners David Watkins of the Iron County Department oi Publ.c We.fi.re discussed dis-cussed the need of an old folks home In tills pait of the state, and said that he thought the State j Would te interested in helping to f liu.nce such a home because of ' the number of old pjole in Southern South-ern Utah who have no home, and who will have to be cared lor in some public institution or In private pri-vate homes at the expense of the counties and the state. Action upon a motion made by Commissioner Charles R. Hunter. Hugh L. Adams, Paul Ward, and Thomas Lund, were appointed to act as a committee to study the matter and make a rejwrt on lt In the next meeting of the commissioners. A motion was also passed authorizing author-izing and instructing the County Sheriff to obtain a list of all Iron County property taken under the operation of state tax laws and to see that all persons occupying these lands cither purchase, lca.se or keep off the property. James C. Robinson, president and N. J. Barlow, superintendant of the Iron County School District culled on the County Commissioners and asked for their approval for the school district to make a tax levy of two mills aovc the statutory limit for school operation for the 1944 collection. After due coasider-atlon coasider-atlon of all facts relative to the case, a motion was passed and the chairman authorized to sign a statement to the school board giving giv-ing the authority to make such an ncrea.se in the levy. A number of tax matters of importance im-portance were also disposed of. |
