Show USO Unit Opens In Cedar City A long worked on project was finally fin-ally achieved last Saturday evening. April 15th when Cedar City opened its USD unit under National Charter, Chart-er, under the direction of Joe Fak-ler, Fak-ler, newly appointed chairmen of the local USO chapter. A formal program and opening was held Sunday Sun-day afternoon. The speaker at the program was Congressman W. K. Granger, who told of the purpose of the USO and how its success could only be measured meas-ured by the amount of cooperation received from the community in sponsoring the activities proposed. Present plans call for operation ot the unit only on Saturday evenings eve-nings from 7 to 12 p. m. and on Sundays from 1 to 9:30 p. in. and on special occasions when local mill tary authorities declare open post for aviation students. It is also planned plan-ned to open the unit one afternooi and one evening each week to enable en-able the wives of students lecated in Cedar City to get together for an afternoon and evening of recreation. recre-ation. Approximately 160 aviation students stu-dents visited the USO Saturday evening eve-ning and approximately 400 students stu-dents and civilians visited the new club, located in the Parry building, Sunday afternoon. Committee chairman, who will be assisted by a large number of USO workers, are as follows: joe Fanier, general chairman. Don Draper, Vice-chairman. Mrs. lone Bennlon, chairman in charge of interior decorating, Junior hostesses and coordination of programs pro-grams and activities. Mrs. Catherine Leigh, chairman in charge of Senior hostesses and refreshments. re-freshments. Lee Liston, coordination of programs pro-grams and activities. Maiy Louise Ewlng, Secretary. Diane Booth, Treasurer, correlating correlat-ing financial and statistical data. Mrs. Agatha Lunt, Cadet wives. Mrs. Eula Coake, Cadet wives and Club room supervisor. The organization of USO in Cedar Ce-dar City has been sponsored by the Office of Civilian Defense, and the Chamber of Commerce, with Dr. F. B. Parkinson and John Rowberry chairman and president, respectively, giving personel leadership to the organization efforts. The opening was a tremendous success. The attractiveness, facilities available, the arrangement, mode of operation, personnel conducting and resultant atmosphere reflected reflect-ed by the boys interested complimented compli-mented highly by Civic, Military and Church guests In attendance. Members of the Lambda Delta Sigma sorority and other girls prlw to opcnling assisted in the cleaning renovation and setting up of the club room. Also the Cadets assisted materially |
