Show 'Chamber President Gives Report Of . Past Year's Activities The newly elected officers of Uk Cedar City Chamber of Commerce outlined the year's activities for the organization at Its meeting last week, when John Rowberry, retiring President gave a report of the work of the Chamber for the past year and of the status of all unfinished projects. Because of the continuous ! nature of many of the projects, Mr. I Rowberry made an appeal to the new officers to continue the support sup-port of projects started during 1944. Among these projects were those in which the Chamber Board has urged the city to undertake certain Improvements and offered the civic group's support in these undertakings. undertak-ings. The Improvements of the 1 streets of the city was high on the ' list of recommendations made to the city, with the suggestion that Jail streets be improved through trading and graveling, through the repair and maltenance of bridges, and also that an effort be made to remove glass from the streets as a protection to automobile tires. I Another field in which the Cham-I Cham-I ber cooperated with the city of-iflcials of-iflcials was in the matter of sanitation, sani-tation, the protection of water and 'milk supplies in the community, and a study of health and sanitation sanita-tion conditions at the local Indian village. I The Chamber also promoted road and aviation development through 'the support o County, State and Federal agencies, in all studies of needs along this line. The Chamber Cham-ber supported especially, development develop-ment programs on highway 91, on I the Cedar-Iron Mountain road and the Paragonah-Pangultch road. The organization was also active in promotion pro-motion of activities at the Cedar City airport, including a campaign to secure an airline stopover at the local airport. J In the line of industrial develop-nent develop-nent the Chamber did much work in connection with the iron mining min-ing development, turkey produc-ion, produc-ion, the livestock Industry, the installation in-stallation of a cold storage locker J lant, agricultural development anl promotion of the nVtlon picture Industry in this area. The Chamber Board has supported sup-ported plans for V recreation park in Cedar City, and did much to promote the repairing of the Navajo Nava-jo Lake dike, and establishing a definite status of the lake waters. I In the way of building good will the Chamber worked for the estab-j Ushment of a USO center, took large numbers of aviation students I on trips to Zlon National Park, entertained en-tertained visiting track teams, sup-! ported the local basketball team on Its trip to the state meet, and held numerous Inter-community meetings for the discussion of mutual mut-ual problem. The Board was active throughout through-out the year, supporting any program pro-gram that would benefit the city, ind devoted much time to projee too numerous to mention here. |
