Show Officials Discuss Japanese Relocation The Japanese re-locatlon question was reopened In Cedar City this week when the Chamber of Commerce Com-merce called a meeting of civic and municipal officials to hear one of the leaders of a Japanese group hoping to settle to Cedar Valley. The representative stated that his group hoped to secure farming property pro-perty in the Cedar Valley, preferably prefer-ably by lease, and remain here for the duration, but that they hesitated hesi-tated to make definite plans until the sentiment of the people regarding regard-ing the matter had been learned. He presented signed statements from California offlclftk vouching (for the character and type of individuals In the group. While the officers at the meeting were not enthusiastic about welcoming wel-coming Japanese Into the territory, they did go on record as being willing will-ing to accept a limited number who can present proof of their integrity integ-rity and citizenship. It seems that a few more Japanese Japan-ese are settling to the county each week, but the number Is not large compared with the settlements to other counties of the state. Twenty-two Twenty-two Japanese children have entered enter-ed the Cedar City schools, elementary, elemen-tary, Junior high and high school, a number of them being transported transport-ed from the west end of the county. A number of families have settled in the Beryl area, but lt la understood that some of them are former residents res-idents of that section, and have moved back to their property after spending several years in California. |
