Show School Boys Combat Flood Menace The boys In the Agriculture classes m of the Enterprise high school were dismissed from classes for two days this week in order to take part in a large scale tree planting program according to George O. Holt, Chair man of the Board of Supervisors for the Enterprise Soil Conservation District. The Soil Conservation Service has just completed three miles of earthen earth-en dike eight feet high which will protect the town and farms of Enterprise En-terprise from another serious flood such as the one experienced in 1938. In order to protect the dike from washing in case of floods, Mr. Holt recommended that trees be planted along side the dike. The Soil Conservation Con-servation Service furnished 3000 two year old trees of different varieties and the school boys were permitted to leave their classes providing they spent their time planting the trees. Conditions In the wash appear unusually favorable for survival of the trees, and people driving north from Enterprise should in a few 'years be greeted by a dense forest of willows, Russian Olive, black locust, and a great variety of shrubs, all of which will protect the town and farms from future floods In addition to furnishing an unusual haven for pheasant and quail. |
