Show Highway Patrol Issues Report For January The Highway Patrol made 597 arrests ar-rests during January, according to the report of Patrol activities for January, submitted to the State Road Commission by R. W. Oroo, Patrol Superintendent. This compares com-pares with 821 arrests during January Jan-uary of 1940, and 425 arrests during dur-ing December, 1940. Following the usual pattern, speeding speed-ing topped the list of offenses with a total of 227 while 83 tickets were given for running stop signs. Ninety-eight motorist were ticketed tick-eted for failure to have drivers' licences. li-cences. This neglect on the part of the motoring public Is difficult to understand because of the general knowledge that any motorist Is subject to arrest at any time for failure to have a driver's Kronen Where motorists are Involved in accidents ac-cidents the neglect is even more serious. During January the patrol also issued 233 warning tickets In continuation con-tinuation of the educational program pro-gram adopted by the patrol to correct cor-rect minor traffic infractions by education rather than by arrest. The public In general has responded respond-ed very well to the warning tickets that have been issued and the Road Commission feels that the program has been very successful In making the motorist traffic-coi-scious, according to W. D. Hammond, Ham-mond, chairman of the commission. commis-sion. $ |
