Show County School Board Handles Numerous Matters At Meeting Filling vacancies caused in the Iron county school system as a result re-sult of the mustering of the Utah National Guard and the selective service calls, occupied much of the time of the Board of Education at a regular meeting Monday evening. Arthur Mickelson, who has been employed as mechanic in charge of school busses for the past two years, will leave with a group of draftees next week, and the Board decided that if he is rejected for any reason he will be privileged to return to his Job. If he is called upon to serve in the army for o year, as is expected he will be, his Job will still be open for him if he wishes to return to it after the completion com-pletion of his military service. John Williams of Cedar City, an experienced experi-enced mechanic, was appointed to fill the vacancy during Mr. Mickel-son's Mickel-son's absence. . Mrs. Helen Mae Foster of Cedar City was approved as a half time teacher in the Cedar City Junior high school, to fill the vacancy that will be caused when Earl Slaughter leaves with the National Guard in March. Slaughter also teaches part time In the elementary school, but a substitute for this position has not been selected. A substitute for Frank Dalley, a teacher In .the elementary ele-mentary school, who also will leave with the National Guard, must yet be selected. These two positions will be filled by local people, at least uilu mc ena oi me present school term. Superintendent N. J. Barlow was authorized to select a bus driver to replace Charles Crowl of Modena, who has been driving the Enter-prise-Modena bus this year. Mr. Crowl has been given full time employment em-ployment with the Union Pacific railroad company, and has resigned. Jack Miller also of Modena was named to fill the vacancy. The Board authorized a program that will enable Mrs. Luella Dalton of Parowan, who is doing adult education edu-cation sewing work at Paragonah, Parowan and Cedar City, to extend that program to Kanarra. It was decided by the board to have the land In the south part of Cedar City, owned by the school district dis-trict and which is being offered for sale as city lots, replatted, providing pro-viding a frontage of approximately 60 feet to each lot instead of the 50 feet provided by the present Plat, it was also decided to raise the restrictions for buildings on the area to $4,500. Superintendent Barlow Bar-low was Instructed to cooperate with the city in adopting restrictions for the area, The Board decided further that any local real estate agent Interested would be authorized author-ized to handle deals Involving the sale of this property. The price per lot has not been determined, but will be decided upon as soon as the replattlng is completed. |
