Show NIGHT BLINDNESS. 1 What Is known as night-blindness is n raro condition In which n person towards to-wards evening finds that objects nro becoming lnss and less distinct, m.d nt last ho Is totally blind. This may occur oc-cur without provlous warning and cause great alarm, but tho next morning morn-ing tho victim of tho condition finds to his delight that his sight is restored. This Is repeated every night, but nt last the eyes become so weak during tho day also, that the victim may be- come partially or totally blind. This strange aflllctlon may ho epidemic. It hns attacked bodies of troops exposed to great futlguo nnd the glaro of tho sun's rays. It Is seldom mot with in temperate climates, except umong sailors sail-ors Just returned from tropical regions. It Is frequent nmong tho nntlves of some parts of India, who attrlbuto It, as our own sailors do, to sleeping exposed ex-posed to tho moonbeams. Tho most probable causo of the nffectlon Is, how-ever, how-ever, exhaustion of tho power of the retina from over-oxcltement, or from excessive light, mi that this organ la rendered incapable of appreciating tha, vjakor stimulating uctlon of twilight, 2 moonlight. |
