Show HOMECOMING DECJOEDJUCCESS. People Enjoy Association With Visitors. Interesting Enter- ments nnd Sports. Wednesday Cedar took on a gala appearance in readiness to welcome tho Homccomcrs. Tho band gave an open air concert at 9 a. m., after which tho citizens nnd visitors went to tho ball grounds to witness tho game played between Cedar and Benver teams. Tho gamo wns fast and clean, with n noticeable absence of "beefing" on both sides nnd resulted in n score of fi to 1 in fnvor of tho Bcover team. John Brown of Poro-wan Poro-wan and Joo Whitmcr of Ccdar were tho umpires. Frank Unsmussen of Parownn caught for tho Ccdar team. Tho afternoon wns taken up with horso races, a Ccdnr horse winning one, n Parownn horso one nnd a horse from out of the county the third. Special mention should bo mado of tho concert given Wednesday evening even-ing in the Tabernacle, by tho Cedar choir, under tho directorship of Miss Bcrnclln Gardner, with Mrs. Lillian Macfarlano at tho piano. Every number num-ber of the program was exceptionally fine. Tho program: "Blow, Buglo Blow," choir. Vocal solo. Otto Fife. Violin solo, James West. "Consider tho Lilies," choir. Piano solo, Norman McCnrty. "Memories," Annette Bettcnson, Mnmio Gardner, Helen Foster, Ionn Lunt, Hazel Granger, Hazel Bnucr. "I waited For tho Lord," Annette Bettcnson, Helen Foster and choir. Thursday morning saw the people of the town and visitors out early and ready for the day's events, which commenced nt 9:30 with a concert by the band. At tho closeof tho concert con-cert the greater par of tho crowd went to the fair grounds to witness the second game of ball between the Cedar and Beaver mines. The game ended in f avorof ,BavcTby a score of 10 to 6, thereby giving thcmllio 'prize of $225. Some considered the game a good one, while others thot it very slow. Tho boys put up good work, but were handienpped by tho heavy condition of the diamond. John Brown of Pnrowan and J. W. Thornton of Cedar were tho umpires for tho second game. In tho afternoon tho horse rnces wero on between the East and West wards, the losing ward to girt tho other a dance. The races wero very interesting, with the East ward having hav-ing tho majority of races so far to their credit, and the balance to bo run this afternoon. A free barbecue will bo given on tho Tabernacle grounds nt 0:30 this ovening. Todny's sports will De held at the fair grounds in tho afternoon and a barbecue given at night, to follow with another danco in the evening, which will bring Cedar's Homecoming Homecom-ing to a successful conclusion. Monday the old familiar sight ol children wending their way to school with their arms loaded with books will bo inaugurated in Cedar ae well as in every other town in tho country. |
