Show A Catholic Congressman. Judge Martin J. Wade, the newly elected congressman from the Second Iowa district, is one of the best known Catholics in the northwest. As a lecturer lec-turer he has appeared on the platform in many sections while his lectures before be-fore the Columbian Catholic Summer school for several seasons gained him a wide prominence. Judge Wade is a man in the prime of life. He was born in Vermont forly-two forly-two years ago. When he was a child the parents of the future congressman moved to Iowa and settled on a farm in Butler county. Judge Wade studied at St. Joseph's college, Dubuque, ar.d later took the law course at the Iowa state university. As a lawyer he has been highly successful. For several years he has been a lecturer in the law department in the state university. In 1S93 he was oppointed judge of the Eighth judicial district by Governor Boise, and when his term expired there was no opposition to his re-election. His recent election on the Democratic ticket as congressman in a district which has gone Republican for years is a splendid tribute to Judge Wade. |
