Show CATHOLIC FEDERATION NOTES. (By the National Secretary.) Since the publication of the last report re-port the following additional episcopal approbations have been received: Bishop Leo Haid of North Carolina writes: "The great federation will always al-ways have my sincerest good wishes. It has already accomplished very much more perhaps than it receives credit for. Anything 1 can do to aid in the good work will be gladly done. A great deal remains to be done. While Moses prayed for his people on the mountain, his arms were supported, and victory came to the Israelites only whilst the support was given him. May we not apply this to the aid the church demands de-mands from her lay members? It is for them that priests and bishops and popes were ordained by Christ. To relegate the immense interests of Christ's church- to the priesthood alone is to misinterpret the spirit of Christ. The glories and triumphs of the church in every age are due in great part to the laity. Her. battles for truth and justice were often fought by her lay members. Why should the clergy be left alone at a time when dangers are no less threatening than then? May God preserve this manly, fearless spirit of true Catholics in the minds and hearts of our faithful laity, and make the Federation of Catholic societies a bulwark of strength and a rallying point for all who have the best interests of America at heart." |
