Show OFFICIAL ENDORSEMENT. Editor Intermountain Catholic: My Dear Sir: Replying to your favor Hung my approval o The Intermountain Catholic since its establishment in this diocese, I will state that I consider the 1 founding of a Catholic paper in Salt Lake I not the least of the many blessings be- . etowed by Providence on the Church here during the past two years. Its birth oc-'V oc-'V curred at an opportune time. Its zeal, in ' propagating Catholic truth, has ha;l, : .nce its inception, my hearty, though silent approval. 1 believe with Our Holy-Father Holy-Father that "a good Catholic journal is a perpetual mission in a parish," and that t will serve as a question box, at all times, for anxious inquirers. In my visl-, visl-, tations I shall hope to rind The Inter- mountain Catholic in the homes of every , O.tholic family. Its mission is to es pouse truth, justice and morality, and ail devoted priests will find in it an able co- l operator in their missionary work. It is , my wish that all my priests and the laity entrusted to my charge should encourage ' your noble effort and that of the gen- i erous founder of The Intermountain Catholic. Yours sincerelv. L. SCAN LAN, t Bishop of Salt Lake. Salt Lake City, Oct. 2. 1900. I CARD FROM BISHOP SCANXAN. ! , I feel it my duty to protect Catholics I and the public generally from fraud and i Imposition by notifying them from time , to time that no person bearing the name f and garb of a priest or slater or anyOM ' j else is autnorized or permitted to solicit I . or collect in this diocese for any purpose I j whatever connected with the Catholic . i Church without having trom me permls- ;i sion in writing bearing my seal and ' : signature. Should any one be found en- j gaged in doing this unlawful work of collecting without such a document, he i 1 or she, as the case may be, should be re- . Kurded by all as a fraud and an importer. ' : L. SCANLAN. I : Bishop of Salt Lake. I : Nov. 20, 1S99. THE POPE'S ADMONITION. A Catholic newspaper in a parish is a rerpetual mission. Let all who truly and rora their souls desire that heligion and fociety defended by human intellect and I literature should flourish, strive by their liberality to guard and protect the , ; Catholic press, and let every one in pro- ' portion to his income support them with his money and influence, for to thosj I Who devote themselves to the Catholic press we ought by all means to bring i j helps of this kind, without which their j . i j , Industry will either have no results or , ! 'i uncertain and miserable ones. : POPE LEO XIIL |
