Show Knights of Columbus Initiate Big Class. Last Sunday was one of the many great days in the history of Salt Lake council, No. 602. of the 'Knights of Columbus, Co-lumbus, when twenty new members were admitted through its portals into that rapidly-growing order. A special meeting was held at 2 o'clock in the council's chambers in the Jennings block, and the first and second sec-ond degrees were conferred by Grand Knight Thomas J. O'Brien, Deputy Grand Knight D. J. Laramie, Warden P. E. Ericksnn, Edward McGurrin and J. B. Cosgriff. The third degree was exemplified by District Deputy Supreme Su-preme Knight J. H. Devine of Ogden council and staff. A banquet was served in the evening after knighthood had been conferred upon the candidates. Eleven tables artistically ar-tistically decorated with carnations were spread. Lecturer John P. Fanning Fan-ning presided, and the K. of C. orches tra furnished the music. Several clever speeches were delivered by prominent knights. J. H. Devine said the order was endeavoring to make all knights perfect members, true soldiers of the church and better citizens of the United States. Judge W. S. Maginnis of Ogden spoke forcefully of the good the order is doing do-ing throughout the country: and pointed point-ed out that more than 200,000 men are lending their efforts toward the education educa-tion of the youth of the land and are instilling into the hearts of all respect and love for the Stars and Stripes. Other speakers were Mayor Stack of Eureka, W. H. Fitzgerald, William P. O'Meara and George Jay Gibson. Those who received the three degrees were: William J. O'Connor, Nicholas Schutte, D. J. Gallivan, J. B. Somo, William J. MacDonald. Francis L. Ma-guire, Ma-guire, P. J. Ward. Edward O'Hagan.-J. J. Mahoney, H. A. O'Donnell, M. J. Schloff, Patrick Gibbons, John Ryan, Joseph J. O'Leary, John McKenna. Henry Young, F. J. O'Neil, W. H. Fitzgerald, Fitz-gerald, Edward J. Hanson, J. N. Wright and W. S. McKeague. |
