Under direction of Miss Nora Gleason, leader of the juvenile choir, a dozen of the older -fc girls were kept busy making hundreds of sandwiches and barrels of lemonade for hungry and thirsty mouths. - ,1 At four long tables the youngsters, after sundry inquiries as to where they "belonged," were seated. There prevailed a sort of noblesse oblige spirit here. The - older ones trok upon themselves the duty of helping the 2 and 3-year-olds out. Sandwiches and lemonade were usually followed by more sandwiches and " lemonade. Then came ice cream and cake. As a ilnal temptation to little stomachs came bags of assorted candy. J Mrs. Thomas Kearns came out as the children were eating their evening luncheon and worked with the nuns in the distribution of good things. She J and Miss Gleason are seen at the left of the picture. , i . . j t -r- C vr, : , :r r ---- ?-r: Kiu y v ; I i : 4 t j i ii i t ; m mi i i i-i'J I I , . VffMtflt'.'.- inHh-r- f ht . Morning and afternoon every seat was occupied. , bwin me some and 1 11 give you a piece of my candy," was a remark often passed. Or, "You get out now and gl' me a turn " ' : Then there were the baby swings. In these fully a score of babes, many under eighteen months, enjoyed themselves to their hearts' content Such a J : cooing lot of infants and candy-sticky ropes have not been seen heretofore this season at the lake. Here was the ;'I want some more" feature of the day. |
