A child rightfully trained in the home by a Christian influence is as firm for right as Jesus Christ himself. I have not so much faith in all those later fads for the building i up of Christian character as is practiced in the social settlements a sndrtietly institutional churches. church-es. 1 have faith in the church, a children's church for spiritual development alone. The public schools develop the brain. There are a hundred ways to develop de-velop the muscle. The church is to develop spirit. If we leave this, we are lost. The home can do this work as thr church cannot. can-not. A good home is a heaven seed that makes an eternal paradise. Is the borne in danger t Yes, I answer, i f the mothers of America do not quit their red-hot, everlasting club business .the home is doomed. It may yet. be a homeless America. There are millions of fatherless, homes, where father in business, lodge and club life has not time for home. God pity us when we become motherless. Every second wot an now is a club woman. Home suffers as women's clubs grow. One woman tells me she belongs to nineteen clubs. It is awful to contemplate. contem-plate. Home is my club. Home is a shadow of my heaven. Prafe as you will, whatever greater or less militates against the home is of the devil. Jesus exalted ex-alted the home. So should we. i :. |
