Show MEETING OF MAYNOOTH UNION". The programme. for the meeting of the May-nooth May-nooth union, in Maynooth college, on Thursday next, the 23d inst., is an important one. The papers to be road for discussion raise many social and industrial in-dustrial questions, as well as theological questions, and those in which the religious and temporal aspects as-pects meet. The most, important subject is that raised by the Most Rev. Dr. Kelly, bishop of Ross, in a paper entitled, ''Woman's Share in the Industrial Revival of Ireland."' The Rev. Peter Finlay, S.J., will read a paper at one of the sectional meetings on "The Place of Laymen in the Catholic Church." Rev. John Rossiter, M.SS., Enniscorthy, will, at another sectional meeting, ventilate a social question ques-tion of prespnt day practical importance, in a paper on the work, aims and organization of the Anti-Treating Anti-Treating league. The Rev. Dr. Tioga n will read a paper on the attitude of Irish Protestants towards their Catholic countrymen. Father Walsh, CM., will read a paper on one of the principal duties of the postoral office, under the title, "Breaking the Broad of Life to the Little Ones." The paper will deal chiefly with the ques-. ques-. tion of viva voce explanation of the catechism by the priest. The business general meeting will precede the reading of papers. His Eminence Cardinal Logue will preside and will deliver an address on the work and objects of the Union and its progress during the year. The reports of the secretary and the treasurer will be submitted. The paper by the bishop bish-op of Ross will be read at this general meeting. The meeting of the Union will, as stated, be held on Thursday next. On the day before (Wednesday) the council of the Union will meet in the college, under the presidency of the eVry Rev. Dr. Mannix, acting chairman of the Union. Special arrangements have been made with the railway companies to facilitate members of the Union in reaching Maynooth for the meeting. ! ouc-hers may be obtained on application to the honorary secretary of the Union, Rev. J. M. Harty. The members of the hierarchy will hold the June meetings on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, 20tb, 21st and 22d. as trustees of the college and as the governing body of the church in Ireland. The visitation vis-itation of the college will take place on Monday, and the meeting of the Episcopal bench will open on Tuesday and will be continued on Wednesday. |
