Show OGDEN. ' A Child Shall Lead Them. (Special Correspondence.) The feast of St. Michael, Archangel, was the occasion of a simple yet touching touch-ing ceremony, when twenty-five littie girls were enrolled as members of the Holy Angels' Sociality at the Sacred Heart academy. After the reception ' Rev Father Cushiiahan. whose love every every child in the congregation of St. Joseph's Jo-seph's is so well known, gave a beau tiful little talk to the children im pressing upon their minds, .he necessity neces-sity of imitating the angels, and of being as angels themselves in their homes and elsewhere, leading others to the practice of angelic virtue. The hymn "Dear Angel Ever at My I Side," in which the sweet young voices blended harmoniousiy, closed the beautiful beau-tiful .ceremony. First Communion Class. The First Communion class, whose members outnumber those of any other year, are to be commended for their prompt attendance at church every day and the earnest attention they give to Rev. Father Cushnahan's instructions. The increasing fervor of the children as the all-important day approaches is an encouraging sign that they realize it is their Divine Lord they are to receive. A Bright Debate. In response to formal Invitations, the faculty and advanced classes of Se-cred Se-cred He:-rt academy assembled last Wednesday morning to hear the under-graduating under-graduating class discuss the relative claims to superiority of the old woman and the new. The library of the institution, in-stitution, which has on previous occasions oc-casions served as a debating hall, was the room chosen, and presented a very animated scene. . Those favoring the style, methods and manners of their grand dames were the Misses, Miller, Shepheid and Mc-Cardle; Mc-Cardle; those preferring the habits, views and life of the so-called new-woman new-woman were the Misses lverson, Murphy Mur-phy and G. Maguire. It was Miss Mil ler shappy duty to present the claims of the old woman, and types from the pages of history and from life emphasized empha-sized the truth of the universally acknowledged line: "The hand that rocks the cradle Is the hand that rocks the world." Miss Iverson's arguments were carefully care-fully selected and skilfully presented, so that even the hearers to whom she did not bring conviction were forced to admire her tactful expression, bright retorts and earnest appeals. The captains cap-tains on both sides were ably supported, sup-ported, and all who attended were pleased and amused. |
