Show ''America". Not the National Anthem. In reference to the tune "America," which recently re-cently was sought to be palmed off as the American national anthem, an Irish musician writes: "It is well known that quite recently the American Ameri-can government officially notified that the 'Star Spangled Banner' was the national anthem of America. This official notification arose from the fact that the air to which "America" had been adapted was also the state anthem of Prussia, Denmark Den-mark and England, and it frequently happened that when the tune was played in publie Prussians, Danes and British considered themselves honored equally with Americans. It is satisfactory that the trick of endeavoring to -get the Dublin bandsmen bands-men to play 'God Save the King,' on the pretense that it was the American natiolial anthem, was not successful. . j. |
