Show A Distin-2-uished Visitor. The Most Reverend Francis Redwood, Red-wood, S. M.. archbishop of Wellington Welling-ton and Metropolitan of New Zealand, arrived in Salt Lake City last Sunday. While in Salt Lake he was the guest of the faculty of All Hallows college. Archbishop Redwood was born in England in the forties, but left the land of his birth for New Zealand in early childhood. He received his education edu-cation and theological training at Mont Bel, France, where he was a college chum of the present John Ireland Ire-land of St. Paul and Bishop O'Gorman of Sioux Falls. He entered on religious life soon after aft-er graduating from the French institution insti-tution and taught theology for some years at Dublin. Ireland. He was later consecrated bishop by Cardinal Manning, Man-ning, archbishop of Westminster. On May 30. 1887, he was raised to the archbishopric and was appointed metropolitan met-ropolitan of New Zealand. Archbishop Redwood is on his way to Rome to greet his holiness, Piux X, and make his decennial report. He was accompanied by the Very Reverend Rever-end Dean Smith of New Zealand. The distinguished prelate was the guest of honor at several social events during the week and he charmed all who met him by his winning personality. |
