Show Politics Not for Priests. (By Cable to the Chicago Tribune.) Bishop Lacroix of Tarcntaise has sent a circular circu-lar letter to the clergy of his diocese giving an account ac-count of an interview had by him with the pope in which they discussed the question of the clergy participating in electoral conflicts. His holiness strongly deprecated the action of priests in encroaching en-croaching upon the independence of elctors by try-! ing to influnce their 'votes before an election or in reproaching them for the manner in which they '' voted. He said nothing can be more .lavulp.blcvt.han for a priest himself to vote aecortiingl'',tp,.lus'cou-scicuce, aecortiingl'',tp,.lus'cou-scicuce, but if unhappily he rusljcV int'o thtvolect- oral fray he soon loses the esteem and sympathy necessary to the fruitful exercise of his spiritual ' mission. Tin's . rule applies not only to Italian priests, but to the 'clergy of all countries in which there is universal suffrage. j - |
