Show Mayfield Pioneer Answers Last Call John W. Anderson, prominent rancher and stockman of Sanpete county, died at his home in Mayfield . Friday morning at nine o'clock, after an illness of several months. He had been in ill health for the past several years. Mr. Anderson was born in Al?icka, Sweden, April 6, 1862, the son of Andrew and Johanna And-rson. He joined the L. D. S. church and came to Utah in 1874, going first to Salt Lake City and later moving to May-field, May-field, where he had since resided, lie. was one of the earliest pioneers at Mayfield. He was married to Mary Ann S;r-enson S;r-enson in 1875. To this union were, born 11 children, eight of whom are living. Surviving are his widow, three sons and five daughters: Odean, Marion Mar-ion and Dan Anderson, Mayfield; Mrs. Violet Nielson, Ephraim; Mrs. Eva t Christ onsen, Talmadge; Mrs. Dora Christenscn, Mrs. Hhoda Sternberg and Mrs. Gladys Hansen, Mayfield r thirty-two grandchildren, two greatgrandchildren; great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. J. With R. D. Larson of the Mayfield ward bishopric in charge, solemn funeral fun-eral and burial rites were held Monday Mon-day afternoon for Mr. Anderson at the school auditorium. Hundreds of sorrowing friends and relatives gathered ga-thered to pay the last sad tribute to the respected citizen and fellow townsman. Among the speakers who paid eulogies to Mr. Anderson were E. V. Bunderson, Mrs. Lilly Larson, president of the Relief society of Mayfield, Clyde Whitloek, and President Presi-dent Chas. S. Hansen of Centerfield. An appropriate musical program was given, the Mayfield choir rendering render-ing a number of selections. A vocal solo by Mrs. Delia Spillsbury of Salt' Lake, and solos by Mrs. June Metcalf and Uhlan Swalberg of Gunnison, were impressively presented. Invocation Invoca-tion was offered by Ed. J. Christiansen, Christian-sen, and the benediction by Lloyd Whitloek. Following the services at the school auditorium the remains were taken to the Mayfield cemetery for interment. |
