Show Seek Appointment Of County Agent One of the major projects being sponsored by the Gunnison Lions club, and which is being vigorously pushed, is an endeavor to have a county agent appointed for Sanpete county. For more than seven years, or since the retirement of C. 0. Stott, county affairs as pertains to the agricultural ag-ricultural sections, it is pointed out, have "been in the dark," and a strong influence will be presented to the county commissioners at a special meeting, which has been called to convene at the county court house tomorrow, Friday, at 2 o'clock p. m. At this time some definite action is expected from the board of county commissioners. For the past several days committees commit-tees wording under the sponsorship of the Gunnison Lions club, have been circulating petitions in every town and settlement in the county for signatures that would favor the employment em-ployment of a county agent, and thus far reports are highly favorable and the board may expect some strong endorsements. Under the plans announced, an-nounced, Sanpete county, through some fund, would be asked to pay $1,000 annually for a competent man. The government, through the department depart-ment of agriculture, would meet the balance of the salary. In pointing out the necessity of a county agent for Sanpete county, it is cited that some $16,000 was lost on the wheat allotments. It was necessary ne-cessary to seek the aid of the committees com-mittees from Sevier and Juab counties coun-ties to get the AAA settlements made, whereas if Sanpete had had an agent, the costs would have been greatly reduced. Sanpete county, it is reported, is :he only county 'n the state without a county agent, and as conditions arise it is highly important that every farmer in the county b.-.ck up the proposition and insist that a representative rep-resentative be named by the- county commissioners. |
