Show r rtire cattle and beef industry and ' should prove to be an important f ac-' ac-' tor in making beef even more popu-i popu-i lar with the consuming public. I The interest in good cattle is reflected re-flected in inquiries regarding the ' Great Western Livestock show, which I will be held November 16 to 23 at the ! Los Angeles union stock yards. It is l expected that this year's show will .bring out the largest numbers of registered cattle that have ever been exhibited on the Pacific coast. With abundance of dry feed in most range and pasture sections in California, Califor-nia, interest in the cattle business now centers on purchases of stocker and feeder cattle for replacement jpurposes. West coast cattlemen are closely watching developments in the middle west, with the feeling that there will be more than the usual competition for feeder cattle. However, How-ever, the middle west is not too ac-' ac-' tlve in bidding for feeder cattle and j the big buying rush can hardly be ex-i ex-i pected until there is greater certainty : of a corn crop. Reports from the mid-. mid-. die west indicate a plentiful supply of forage crops but corn is late and early frosts would greatly reduce yields. Summer buying of feeder cattle has been larger than any previous year at the Los Angeles union stock yards, with prevailing prices on feeders very nearly in line with slaughter prices on grass cattle. In view of very favorable rail priv'leges, permitting permit-ting sorting and reconsigning, it is believed that the central market will prove the most popular center for trad'ng in stocker and feeder cattle this fall. Those who are able to fill their feeder requirements at the central cen-tral market are able to effect savings in time and traveling expense, a very considerable item hi the purchase of feeders. The fall supply of stocker and feeder feed-er cattle and calves is expected to be smaller than normal, although quality and fleshing of most of the range cattle cat-tle is better than usual. Arizona has had very favorable summer range conditions for the most part and producers, pro-ducers, supplied with plenty of range feed, w'll be inclined to carry over a good many calves and yearlings, as well as heifers and cows, unless a very favorable price situation develops. de-velops. ' From the standpoint of breeding stock, there is a very decided inclination inclina-tion throughout the producing sections sec-tions to improve quality through the purchase of registered beef bulls. Last year's drouth caused heavy culling cull-ing of cattle herds, both on government govern-ment purchases and shipments to , market. Demand for purebred beef bulls is exceptionally active through-' out the cattle country. This is cer-i tainly an excellent thing for the en- j , i |
