Show Plan Celebration For Skyline Drive I To further advertise and make "known to the public not yet familiar with the beauties and picturesqueness of the now famous "Skyline Drive," coursing the mountain tops between Fairview and as far south as May-field May-field canyon, Captain Openshaw, commanding officer of camp F-28.at Gooseberry, his assistants; Camp Superintendent Su-perintendent Seeley and assistants to Seeley; local forest officers, backed by civic and other clubs, are arranging arrang-ing for a big celebration to be held about September 18, according to J. W. Humphrey, supervisor for the Manti National forest. Mr. Humphrey was in Gunnison last Friday and was conferring with officers of the Gunnison Gun-nison Lions club relative to the celebration, cele-bration, and was assured that the local club would join in successfully Duttinir the celebration over. I Tentative plans, according to Mr. Humphrey, provide for the people of Sanpete, Emery and Carbon counties, leave the valleys about 10 o'clock in the morning, drive along the top of the mountain, and then proceed along the "Skyline Drive" to Gooseberry camp. It is planned to arrange the tour so that those attending will arrive ar-rive at the camp at about 3 o'clock in the afternoon. It will allow visitors visit-ors to enjoy a fall picnic among the beautiful frost-tinged foliage and the mountain crags before arriving at the camp. Gov. H. H. Blood, Colonel Sweeney of Ft. Douglas, Regional Forester R. H. Rutledge and other dignitaries, have been invited to attend the celebration, cele-bration, and it is believed some will be present. Following a mixed program, lasting last-ing about an hour and a half, barbecued barbe-cued sandwiches and coffee will be served. A "whiz" of a program of sports will be started after the feast on sandwiches. Fast boxing matches, wrestling, horseshoe pitching, baseball base-ball and other sports will be provided for the visitors until evening, when two dances will be given. One of the dances will be held at the "mess" hall, and the other at the new camp clubhouse that is nearing completion. Promoters of the celebration are seeking the full cooperation of the citizens, and have announced that stores in" North Sanpete county will all be closed for for the day, and they will ask that stores in Gunnison Gunni-son and all in Carbon and Emery counties close, since it is desired to give the people from all communi-t'es communi-t'es a cbance to join the caravan. |
