Show Schools of Valley Open Winter Term Schools of the Gunnison valley "got off" with a fine start this week and the coming fall and winter term, from all appearances, will be another step towards advancement, not only jfrom the fact that students are entering en-tering school after the long vacation with lots of pep, but with the inter-j inter-j est shown by the faculty in the var-i var-i ious departments. Monday was Bet aside for registration, but little time was used in this work as the task was soon over and the students were given their liberty to spend the bal-I bal-I ance of Labor day. j Principal Leo D. Bardsley of the , Gunnison Valley high school was exceptionally ex-ceptionally gleeful Tuesday evening when interviewed. He reported a registration reg-istration of 220, the largest on the opening day since the school was started. This number, too, equaled the total at any time during the 1934 session. The freshmen led in registration, registra-tion, the total for the first day being i 70. The other classes showed: Sopho- mores, 67; juniors, 49, and seniors, 34. At the Washington elementary, the registration, according to Principal Princi-pal J. E. Metcalf, was 270. This i shows a slight increase from that of i last year, but after the farm wdfk is finished and the beet harvest is. over, ithe attendonce at the Washington school is expected to show a material increase. Clive Despain, principal at the Lincoln Lin-coln school at Centerfield, stated that the registration for the 1935-36 term was sixteen short of last year. A healthy registration was made at the opening of the school, however, and 184 are already enrolled.
