Show Centerfield Band AppearsSn Uniform "What a picture!" was frequently expressed Labor day at Centerfield when the citizens celebrated in a unique way. Thirty members of the Centerfield band all artists for the training they have had were present pres-ent with natty blue and gold uniforms, uni-forms, and when they appeared before be-fore the large group of citizens, lusty cheers went forth from every throat. Monday had been set aside as the day the members of the band were to receive the new uniforms, and the members in turn to give a forty-five minute concert. School patrons and citizens swarmed the school ground to greet the band and its members in its initial public concert. Following the concert, the band members went into maneuvering, staging unique marching with rhythm and precision. For this number the band members were roundly applauded. The new band suits, attractive from every standpoint, were made possible through the generosity of the citizens of Centerfield. The funds advanced, according to Grant Harris, director, are to be returned through monies received from a series of concerts and musical programs that are billed for the coming fall and winter. When the obligation has been met, the suits will be the property of the school band. To give some idea of the advancement advance-ment that put some 22 members in the band, qualified for public appearance, appear-ance, this group has studied but about seven months, which demonstrates demon-strates that the students are adept in learning on the several instruments instru-ments to wh'ch they were assigned. The membership number will be increased in-creased ten or more during the school term this winter, and by next spring Centerfield can boast of an asset that is invaluable to any community. As a starter for public concerts at which small sums will be charged, the Centerfield band will appear in concert at the Casino Monday evening, eve-ning, September 9, at 8 o'clock. The public can help a lot if they will but hunt up a member of the band and j exchange a small amount of silver for a t'eket to this concert. j |
