Show -- U I MANTI NATIONAL i I FOREST NOTES - : : On October 20 two elk were killi'd in the head of Jimmy's Fork east of Ephraim. Forest officers found the ;clk shortly after they were shot and brought them to Ephraim, wheve they were auctioned off the afternoon after-noon of the 21st. It. was thought that these elk were killed by mistake, mis-take, until it was noticed that the ivories had been taken by the hurt-crs, hurt-crs, who were .apparently expe r' filong that line. A good descript i of the men doing the killing has boon given by eye witnesses, and the guilty guil-ty parties will be brought down frot.i up-state to answer charges of vir-lating vir-lating the state game laws, The day before the opening of the hunting season, a young man from Manti killed a nice buck in Mnir'.d canyon. The young man was brought to town and fined $100. The deer was auctioned off by Ranger Cox on October 23. It is reported that a party of deer hunters came down into Huntington canyon in an airplane. They effected effect-ed a landing, and according to re- . ports, all or most of the party secured secur-ed their deer. Some of them were taken back in an automobile, and one deer was taken in the plane. District Engineer J. P. Martin spent October 25, 26 and 27 on the Manti forest, looking over the road , work in Huntington canyon, and a proposed route for the Fairview-Clear Fairview-Clear Creek road. During the greater part of : the past month Forest Ranger D. H. Williams has been confined to his bed with a severe attack of typho d fever. His condition . at this time, is reported as precarious. . |
