Show Deserved Tribute Paid to Famous Race Horse A tablet marking the grace of Goldsmith Gold-smith Maid, queen of American trotters, trot-ters, who set a record of 2:14 for tho mile at Boston in 1374 and died In 1885, was unveiled at Trenton, N. J., in the presence of Gov. A. Harry Moore and a distinguished gathering of women and men prominent in sport and society. The famous trotter is buried on a farm adjoining the Trenton Tren-ton fair grounds. "We are here today to pay tribute to the horse," said Governor Moore. "Just a horse, and yet. it gave the best that was in It. And that Is a lesson for all human beings." The tablet was given by a Trenton sportsman. Goldsmith Maid was owned by Henry M. Smith, a banker and earned ?3G4,200 for him in a reign of seven years on the American tracks. |
